“I’m largely self-sufficient and self-motivated but I do crash occasionally and it can be disastrous.”

From Me, The “Other” film

I’m a bisexual comic book artist making a living writing and drawing comics about identity politics. I’m told I have a surprisingly conservative perspective among LGBT circles but in conservative circles I’m far too liberal they say! I was diagnosed in 2013 with chronic Lyme disease, lost pretty much everything (job, friends, all my money…). Despite my ongoing battle with the disease, I rebuilt my life and am now working full time as a comic book artist and writer. I don’t particularly like talking about myself directly, preferring the language of sequential art, but if I had to say anything about my work I’d say that I hope to empower young men to stave off the temptations and addictive behaviors encouraged by our overly consumer culture and to embrace their own personal callings in life.

Who is a hero or heroine in your personal life?

A woman named Pili Dressel that my mother worked with. She was the first “cool” adult I met: she had tattoos of goddesses, a tarantula in her office, had a cool girlfriend, and liked “Xena: Warrior Princess”. As a kid I saw her, this punky adult who had a successful life and career, and simply thought “Whoah, you can do that with your life?” So I did.

This is my dad, myself, and a family friend building a downhill go kart that I miraculously did not get myself killed in.

Who is an historical figure that you would have loved to have met?

Wally Wood, an American comic artist who drew some of the greatest sci-fi comics ever inked! I would’ve liked to talk him out of blowing his brains out all over his drawing desk.

What is one of your favorite things to do?

I enjoy fishing and hunting. Most artist are very indoors-oriented and it makes them the most boring individuals on the planet, having hobbies that get me outside helps me keep my sanity and gives me lots of stories to talk about instead of what television shows I watch.

What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you?

That I collect tin lunch boxes and Mr. Potato-Heads.

What’s your favorite place in the world?

Montana, it’s big, beautiful, and has lots of wilderness to explore.

What do you do to relieve stress?

Go to the comic book store, it’s only a little related to work!

What is your favorite book?

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

This of me on vacation in the Caribbean when I was young, which led to a love of snorkeling.

What’s your favorite movie of all time?

Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo

This is of me in a pool toy that is now doubtlessly illegal (my brother and I somehow never cracked our heads open).

These are pictures of me in a suit with a sword are from me acting like a giant dweeb during my senior year of high school yearbook photo shoot; the Yakuza never returned any of my calls sadly.

This one is of me in my old college studio, which appears to be a collage of bad decisions happening all at once!
